JPG to PNG

Convert JPG and JPEG files to PNG, a lossless format that will not lose any further detail through repeated editing. Because the conversion runs in your browser rather than on a server, your file is never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone else.

Drop your file to start.

The converter needs JavaScript, because the conversion itself runs on your own device rather than on a server. Enable JavaScript to load it.

When PNG is the right choice

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so it is the format to use when an image will be edited and re-saved repeatedly, when you need a transparent background, or when a tool or platform specifically requires it. Screenshots, diagrams, logos and UI assets all belong in PNG.

A realistic expectation on file size

Converting JPG to PNG will make the file larger, often several times larger. It cannot recover detail that JPG compression already discarded either. What it does give you is a stable master that will not degrade further.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your file

Drag it onto the drop zone, click to browse, or paste from the clipboard.

  2. 2

    Download

Press Convert and save the result. Your file never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. Detail lost during the original JPG compression cannot be restored. PNG simply stops any further loss from happening.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless, so it stores full pixel data instead of approximating it. A larger file is the expected result.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the background stays as it was. Transparency has to be added in an image editor.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. Very large images are constrained only by your device's memory.
